cheap cigarettes

Actually, you rarely see trash being tossed around city streets, with one exception: Cheap Cigarettes butts. There seems to be no conscience when it comes to distributing them on the street or sidewalk in every corner of the community. It isn’t just Plattsburgh that is victimized by this aberration in citizenship. Plattsburgh is fortunate to have street sweepers, which help keep up with the litter, but, in most areas of the North Country, the work has to be done either by hand or by nature. If you wait long enough, rain, snow and wind will probably decompose the paper and tobacco. But who wants to wait? What do you suppose prompts smokers to believe that there is an excuse for the distribution of cigarette butts around municipal streets? Surely, the people who throw the butts to the ground wouldn’t argue that it’s all right to similarly discard candy wrappers or banana peels. (Not that people don’t discard candy wrappers or banana peels, but most of them wouldn’t have the gall to try to justify it.) Yet they zing cigarettes butts out the window as if there is no harm in that whatsoever. They are so cavalier about it, you’d think they even perceive a public benefit in it.
